Project outline

Our work at Bishopsgate Tunnel involved strengthening works to the existing steelwork structure housed within an active rail line beneath a busy street of homes and businesses.

The complexity and scope of the task required the installation of heavy steel components, lifted and precisely positioned using specialised RRVs (road rail vehicles) equipped with manipulator attachments, the assembly of preassembled needle and spreader beam units, the coring of large 300mm diameter cores, penetrating 1.3 meters into the brick substrate, as well as the installation and grouting of top needles all within a confined environment.

The strengthening works is part of a wider £800m scheme to develop the land above the tunnel in Shoreditch with works only able to proceed once the strengthening works is complete.
