A great place to work where people feel secure and comfortable to be themselves
At Murphy, we are incredibly proud of our diverse workforce. Not only do our people represent over 60 different nationalities, but they also represent a wide range of backgrounds, ethnicities and ages.
We strongly believe that the diversity our people bring is a real strength. It broadens our capabilities and increases our offering to the industry. As a business we challenge ourselves to provide a great place to work, where our people can feel secure and comfortable to be themselves, allowing them to develop and thrive in their work.
Respect, Integrity and Accountability is one of our five values, and we believe that inclusion is only truly embedded once this ‘secure and comfortable’ feeling is created permanently.
To support this aim, we operate a collection of inclusive recruitment activities designed to break down the barriers to meaningful employment. In addition to recruitment programmes supporting prison leavers and refugees, Murphy was also the first, and only, construction company in the UK to offer Ambitious About Autism placements.
We work to continue this inclusion in our facilities, with disability friendly offices including hearing loops in all meeting rooms, prayer rooms and wheelchair accessible lifts and ramps.
In addition, we aim to support our colleagues in their home life, with a range of family-friendly benefits including enhanced maternity leave and returners bonus, enhanced support for carers through our Care Concierge scheme for those approaching later life and our unique scheme recognising marriages and civil partnerships including two weeks additional paid leave, voucher and other celebrations.
To ensure we are on track in our efforts to create a great place to work, we regularly engage with our colleagues to get their feedback on life at Murphy. Alongside internal opportunities to share feedback, we also partner with external bodies to collect feedback. In the last twelve months, feedback from our colleagues has seen Murphy celebrate two significant achievements.
In 2023, Best Companies recognised Murphy as the UK’s Best Big Company to work for, based on employee feedback. In the feedback, a strong sense of inclusion was highlighted – 93% of our colleagues stated they feel included within our business.
In addition, we are proud to have been awarded the ‘We Invest in People Gold accreditation’, and marked as being “ahead of the industry curve” in how we empower people, by Investors in People, also based on employee feedback.
